Well, I guess this is kinda the last Friday of my posting on this blog (I guess? Is the blog going under? Can someone send out an e-mail? Ok. I think we’re all pretty tired of it). So, first of all, I’d like to clarify that HAGS stands for, and has always pretty much stood for, Have a Great Summer. That’s how I meant it in last Friday’s post. Second of all, my summer’s gotten off to a pretty good start! All of the grad parties leveled out all of my energy for the week. They were pretty tiring, but they were all pretty fun. I’ve also been planning out the rest of my summer. I already know that I’m taking first term classes, going to Cedar Point at the beginning of August because of my mother’s class reunion, and going to Warped tour, but other than that I really don’t have much to do but relax, and I like it that way! I may enroll in a yoga class or two because I had the most relaxing yoga session ever today, and my mom said she’d also like to give it a try. Anyway, I hope that all of you can also find ways to make your vacations (or, from my perspective, staycations) as fun as possible!
Preguntas!
Genres: Personally, I could stick with indie until the day I die. It’s sort of unfair to say though because indie is really just a broad categorization for musicians in a wide range of genres. All it really means is that the artist is either independent and making it happen without a label, or they are signed with an indie label with very few strings attached. Pop is pretty much a social and economic opposite to indie in that pretty much every single aspect of popular music, in any genre, is usually manipulated or manufactured to make a profit (eg. The Jonas Brothers). So, basically, it’s more like the ethnicity of the music rather than the race (if anyone can catch my drift on that statement, I salute you). So, honestly, I don’t like calling indie a real “genre” because it’s sort of a culmination. But if you listen to indie music and absorb what makes these people want to make music just for the fun of it and not necessarily for the money, you can hear how many people miss the distinction. Part of it is also the fact that 85% of indie music is really just acoustic alternarock or pumped and modernized groove (and sometimes even “prep”, as a subgenre!) minus a label. So, that’s my opinion!
Summer: ^^I think I answered it in the first paragraph^^
Well, it’s been a roller coaster of a year on this blog, and I’m very happy it’s lasted as long as it has. I can assure you that I’ll be checking up on all of your blogs, as I hope you will mine (though it is sort of in a transitional stage). I have loved reading about all of your lives on a weekly bimonthly basis, and I wish you love, luck, and all of the joys of living! Toodles!
Just kidding, but it’s amazing nonetheless…I don’t know, the issues raised and the messages in the music really speak to me. Also, I love the sound of it—the instruments used and the style, I guess. And the people who play rock ‘n roll are friggin’ amazing, so that pretty much seals the deal.

Maybe this wasn’t clear when I posted it, but HAGS stands for Have A Great Summer. Granted, it was most used when signing off on the yearbooks of peers in elementary school, the abbreviation still holds significance.
